This sculpture was selected to be one of the first works by an American artist to tour China in the 1980’s and it was prominently displayed at the American Embassy in Botswana in the 1990’s.

I had to go to Glacier National Park 37 years ago in order to observe a concentration of bald eagles. Today they are frequently seen soaring over the Mancos Valley.

THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT of 1973

  • This controversial legislation gives protection to many species that hover on the brink of extinction.
  • In 1963 there were only 417 documented pairs of nesting Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states.
  • There were only two pairs in Colorado.
  • Today there are over 10,000 nesting pairs of eagles in the lower 48 states, and over 170 pairs in Colorado.
  • In 2007, the Bald Eagle population was deemed stable enough to be able to remove our Nation’s symbol from the Endangered designation.
