Moku Hanga – Japanese Woodblock Printing

I am exploring a new medium – Japanese Woodblock Printing – Moku Hanga. Moku Hanga is an ancient art form that combines sculpture and painting. A composition is drawn onto a woodblock. The artist then carves away sections that are not to be printed. The remaining raised part of the blocks are colored by hand with a transparent water based ink. The chosen paper is placed on the inked block and printed by rubbing the paper with a “Barren.” Successive layers of transparent color, combined with cutting away sections you no longer want to print, offer endless possibilities.
In recognition of my learning curve with this very complex medium, I am offering my first three attempts for only $65
