“Ready to Ride”

Edition 30

The early 1900’s ushered in a renaissance for American women. Corsets and long skirts were abandoned for more practical attire and the Cowgirl became an icon of freedom. Imagery abounds showing independent women dressed in split skirts and wearing large western hats and gauntlet gloves. Loose fitting blouses were topped off with large silk scarves. The clothing echoed a romantic attitude that combined seductiveness and competence. The American Cowgirl was “Ready to Ride.”
