1897 heralded the beginning of the Klondike Gold Rush. Filled with dreams of finding a fortune, thousands of men and women of all ages, headed to the shores of Skagway, Alaska. A black market for dogs to help pull loads flourished. Those lucky enough to have even one or two dogs had a huge advantage over the majority who pulled their own supplies or carried everything on their backs. These two huskies are suited for the task, but many stolen pets were not. Jack London brought the plight of dogs to the public in his famous book “Call of the Wild.”
Harrison Ford is starring in a remake of “Call of the Wild” which will be released in January 2020.
